MNSL Rules
MNSL
generally follows the the FIFA Laws of the Game and adheres to US Youth
Soccer competitive mandates. There are a few rules unique to our
league:
MNSL U6 DIVISION- Ball size 3
- 4 v 4, no goalie, across the width of the smaller field
- Four – 10 minute quarters
- Throw-ins should be used but don't be tight - encourage
- All restarts from fouls are indirect kicks (cannot score goal directly from restart)
- Corner and goal kicks suggested
- Don't discourage dribbling! Passing is not viewed as an age appropriate skill
- Coaches referee
- Coaches direct substitutions
- PUGG Nets MUST be used
- No offsides
- Slide tackling not allowed call as dangerous play
- All players should rotate through all positions during the game
- Players MUST play half the game minimum
MNSL U8 DIVISION
- Ball size 3
- 6 v 6 with goalie, across adjusted width of larger field
- Use smaller set of portable goals
- Two – 20 minute halves
- Don't discourage dribbling, but begin to develop passing concepts
- Throw-ins, repeat 1x with instruction, if necessary, then kick-in
- Coaches referee
- Coaches direct substitutions
- Indirect kicks – yes
- No direct kicks
- All restarts from fouls are indirect kicks (cannot score goal directly from restart)
- No penalty shots
- No off sides
- All players should rotate through all positions during the game
- Slide tackling not allowed call as dangerous play
- Players MUST play half the game minimum
MNSL U10 DIVISION
- Ball size 4
- 6 v 6 with goalie, across entire width of larger field
- Use larger set of portable goals
- Two – 25 minute halves
- Throw-ins, repeat 1x with instruction, if necessary. If still incorrect, other team gains possession
- Indirect kicks – yes
- All restarts from fouls are indirect kicks (cannot score directly from restart)
- No direct kicks
- No penalty shots
- No off sides
- All players should rotate through all positions during the game
- Players MUST play half the game minimum
- Slide tackling not allowed call as dangerous play
- Yellow/Red cards are not used however refs will instruct players
MNSL U12 DIVISION
- Ball size 4
- 8 v 8 with goalie on smaller field
- Two – 30 minute halves
- Indirect kicks – yes
- Direct kicks - yes
- Penalty shots - yes
- Off sides – called throughout the season starting with first game
- Yellow/Red cards enforced
- All players should rotate through all positions during the game
- Slide tackling not allowed call as dangerous play
- Players MUST play half the game minimum
MNSL U14 DIVISION
- Ball size 5
- 11 v 11 with goalie
- Two – 35 minute halves
- Indirect kicks – yes
- Direct kicks - yes
- Penalty shots – yes
- Off sides – called throughout the season starting with the first game
- Yellow/Red cards enforced
- Slide tackling not allowed call as dangerous play
- Players MUST play half the game minimum
MNSL U16, U19 DIVISION
- Ball size 5
- 11 v 11
- Two – 40 minute halves (U16)
- Two – 45 minute halves (U19)
- Indirect kicks – yes
- Direct kicks - yes
- Penalty shots - yes
- Off sides – called throughout the season beginning with the
first game
- Yellow/Red cards enforced
- Slide tackling not allowed call as dangerous play
- Players MUST play half the game minimum
